Title: First-principles calculations of point defects for quantum applications

Abstract: Point defects are ubiquitous in all material and can have a profound impact on their properties. Recently, such defects have been utilized as robust quantum systems for applications in quantum computing, communication, and metrology. In this talk, I will discuss the benefits and challenges of defects for quantum applications, and the role that computational studies can play in understanding and utilizing point defects. Specifically, I will demonstrate the role of excited electronic states and electron-phonon coupling in such systems, and the current efforts to treat such effects from first principles.
