3-particle mechanism for unconventional superconductivity: theory and material realization

I will present a new mechanism for superconductivity from strong electron-electron repulsion in multi-band systems. When the kinetic energy is small,
the dynamics of nearby electrons on the lattice is strongly correlated. I will show by a controlled expansion in the kinetic term that pairing can be induced by correlated tunneling of 3 particles. This effect can also be viewed as exciton-mediated pairing in real space. Possible realizations of this idea leading to spin-triplet superconductivity will be discussed.
