 te (NBI)\, University of Copenhagen\nTime: 10 am - 11 am\nTitle: Protectin
 g Quantum Information\nAbstract: This talk will summarize recent experimen
 tal progress toward protecting quantum information in solid-state electron
 ic devices. The first is using topological superconductivity to create enc
 odings that spatially separate information in the form of Majorana zero mo
 des. The second\, the so-called zero-pi qubit\, uses a related encoding wh
 ere states are separated in a more abstract way.  Both approaches use hyb
 rid materials with essential properties not readily found in a single mate
 rial.\n\nSpeaker: Michael Freedman\, Distinguished Scientist with MSR-NE 
 and was Founding Director of Microsoft Quantum – Santa Barbara (Station 
 Q)\n\nTime: 11 am - 12 pm\nTitle : The Universe from a single Particle\nAb
 stract: I will explore a toy model in which spontaneous symmetry breaking 
 – acting on the level of operators (not states) - can produce the intera
 cting physics we see about us from the simpler\, single particle\, quantum
  mechanics we study as undergraduates. The spirit is to look for the simpl
 est context from which the rich physics of our universe might have emerged
