The 160 Speaker Series talk, Seeing with Fresh Eyes: Meaning, Space, Data, Truth, with Edward Tufte will be on Tuesday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. in the Gerald D. Fischbach Auditorium at 160 Fifth Ave.
In this talk, Edward Tufte will discuss some of the overarching themes in his most recent book, Seeing with Fresh Eyes: Meaning, Space, Data, Truth. He will address topics such as the role of data analysis when lives are at stake, the relationship between evidence and conclusions, and remodeling statistical practice and teaching to fit the times.
Due to the unique nature of this talk and a special surprise for attendees, a Zoom link will not be provided but we will be recording the event.
Speaker Bio:
Edward Tufte is a statistician, visualizer, and artist. He taught data analysis and policy making at Princeton and Yale for 32 years, and taught his one-day course on Presenting Data and Information to 328,000 students between 1994 and 2020. He wrote, designed, and self-published 5 books on data visualization. The New York Times described Tufte as the 'Leonardo da Vinci of data,' and Bloomberg as the 'Galileo of graphics.' He has designed and constructed a 234-acre sculpture park, studio, and tree farm in northwest Connecticut called Hogpen Hill Farms which will show his artworks and remain open space in perpetuity. Tufte also founded Graphics Press, ET Modern Gallery/Studio.
