Title: Understanding biological learning through the lens of machine learning: network dynamics and plasticity rules

Abstract: In this talk I will present one model for how recurrent neural circuits can learn with temporally and spatially local signals. This algorithm can be understood in a broader mathematical framework that organizes RNN learning algorithms by their mathematical properties. Finally, I will describe a new approach for assessing learning processes through the lens of functional changes in circuit dynamics, which opens the door to reverse-engineering learning rules from chronic population recordings.
