Description

Mentors for any of the Summer at Simons programs are invited for a highly interactive mentor training workshop that’s based on the “Entering Mentoring” curriculum developed by the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Improved Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) on Monday, May 22 from 12:00-4:30 PM in the Marion Greenup Conference Center at 160 Fifth Ave; the training will be followed by a reception on the 160 roof from 4:30-6:00 PM.

Led by Alyssa Picchini Schaffer, PhD, SF Vice President and Senior Scientist for Neuroscience Collaborations, and Pilar Cossio, Research Scientist and Project Leader, CCM/CCB, who have been certified to facilitate this workshop, the training will cover:
* Developing your mentoring plan
* Aligning mentor-mentee expectations
* Effective communication and feedback
* Addressing equity and inclusion

Much of the training will be dedicated to facilitated breakout discussion groups, in order to build peer support among mentors working with summer research students. These breakout groups will lay the groundwork for mentor lunches over the summer.
