A momentum-space perspective of finite-size error in continuum diffusion Monte Carlo

Small system size is a leading source of systematic bias when explicitly correlated methods are applied to condensed matter. Size extrapolation is costly and relies on assumed asymptotic. In this talk, I will describe finite-size corrections for ground-state energies, the momentum distribution, and the fundamental gap calculated using diffusion Monte Carlo. This approach directly calculates the finite-size corrections in a fixed-size cell based on many-body observables, thus eliminating the need for extrapolation.
