Learning cell-type-specific single-cell gene regulatory networks in the developing Drosophila optic lobe

Gene expression is regulated in a context-specific manner in order to control growth and response to perturbation. Reconstructing the regulatory network which connects transcription factors to their target genes within these specific contexts remains a key and challenging problem in systems biology. The Drosophila optic lobe provides a great example of a diverse genetic landscape. Deciphering how neuronal diversity in the optic lobe is established requires a detailed understanding of the regulatory networks governing each cell type throughout development. In this talk, I will describe a multitask network inference approach to learning cell type-specific, as well as shared, regulatory networks across key stages of development of the Drosophila optic lobe.
