Important Information:
- All fellows are expected to prepare and bring a physical poster to the symposium on Monday, April 17. We will have boards and tape/thumbtacks available to mount your poster.
- Make sure you have a printing plan and enough time to execute it! You can print your poster and bring it with you, or plan to print and pick it up in NYC.
- If you wish to print your poster in NYC, you must plan this in advance with the business directly. Printing businesses recommended by Simons Foundation scientists are listed here:
- Posters should be 3 feet x 4 feet, and can be either vertical or horizontal.
- In designing your poster, think first about the story you want to tell about what you've learned and accomplished this year.
- Posters should include background information, the scientific question you worked on, the methods you used, and what answers you have found so far. And null answers are still answers!
- If you do not have specific results, we suggest you frame the poster around the skills and tools you are learning. Present background, a question that your lab studies that you are interested in answering, what kinds of skills are useful for answering that question, and how you have approached learning/implementing those skills.
- Prepare a ~2 minute pitch to tell your story that still leaves space for questions about the details. Please arrange practice time with your mentor and/or lab. SURF will also host zoom practice sessions for small groups of fellows to practice their presentation. Please see the SURF Program Events Google Calendar to find a session.
- All fellows will be assigned to present their poster either in the morning poster session or the afternoon poster session. The fellow is expected to be the primary presenter.
- During the session in which you are not presenting, fellows should visit other posters to learn more from our scientific community.
- Mentors are welcome to spend time at both their mentee's poster and other posters.
- Each fellow will be assigned to one of two poster sessions so they can spend one session presenting and the other session visiting peers' posters. Mentors are welcome to spend time at both their mentee's poster and other posters, but the fellow should be the primary presenter.
